The new year is fast approaching with a new batch of data science community events! We’ve collected below some of the conferences, events, hackathons, and other opportunities that DataLab’s members look forward to annually. Some of these events have not yet been announced for 2022, and thus we are including them here based on their historical time frames. If you know of more events you think should be highlighted here or for future quarters, please send us an email and let us know.
January
Women in Data Science Datathon – This year’s Women in Data Science (WiDS) Datathon focuses on the environment and climate change. Registration opens in January, and projects are due at the end of February.
Hack Davis is UC Davis’ annual hackathon for students, run by students. Keep an eye on their website for news about the 2022 event!
Critical Code Studies working group meeting kicks off January 15 and runs through February 14, 2022. Advance application required.
February
Civic Innovation Corps – The Civic Innovation Corps is a paid internship program for students with data and technology skills. It places students in state and local government to apply their skills for the public good.
URISA CalGIS Conference – URISA (The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association) hosts a yearly conference in California, but it was canceled in 2021 and plans for 2022 are TBA.
Love Data Week – groups across the globe engage in a week-long dive into all things data with trainings and meetups. In 2022 DataLab is partnering with colleagues from across the University of California system to host UC Love Data Week February 14-18.
March
Women in Data Science Conference – Join us at regional events at UC Davis in February and March, and tune into the global conference broadcast from Stanford on March 7, 2022.
Open Data Day – Events across the globe celebrate open data with various data challenges. Many are online this year, so find one that interests you!
RStudio Conference – This year’s RStudio Conference originally planned to occur in Orlando, Florida has been cancelled. Stay tuned for announcements on their website regarding whether the conference will go virtual.
