We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral research scholar for a one-year position (with potential for an additional one-year extension) under the joint supervision of USDA Agricultural Research Service scientists Dr. Danielle Lemay and Dr. Deb Peters. The postdoc will be part of the SCINet Postdoctoral program and will be located in Davis, CA (USDA-ARS Western Human Nutrition Research Center). The postdoc will use machine learning approaches to predict the effects of diet on various health outcomes from a healthy California population. The postdoc will also be responsible for developing standardized machine learning workflows for nutrition research and will develop and co-lead ARS-wide workshops resulting in a community of scientific practice for applying machine learning to nutrition data.

Requirements:

  • Recent PhD (within the last 4 years) in a biological science, computer science, statistics, or other related field
  • Interest in nutrition and human health
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct effective oral communication and publication of manuscripts in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident

Additional Preferences:

  • Proficiency in R and/or Python
  • Experience using software version control systems (e.g. git)
  • Experience with high performance computing environments with SLURM submission scheduling
  • Skill in the facilitation of meetings and working with multi-disciplinary groups
