Dr. Danielle Lemay (USDA Agricultural Research Service Western Human Nutrition Research Center) is seeking a motivated postdoctoral scholar for a two-year research position. The postdoc will be working on a project using artificial intelligence to develop methods for real-time dietary assessment from meal photos and descriptions. Specifically, the postdoc’s primary duties will be to develop and assess natural language processing (NLP) methods to extract information from text descriptions of meals, and to help integrate the NLP methods into the final pipeline for real-time dietary assessment. 

Requirements:

  • Recent PhD (within the last 4 years) in a biological science, computer science, or related field
  • Experience with unix/linux command line and shell scripting
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct effective oral communication and publication of manuscripts in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Interest in nutrition and human health
  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident

Additional Preferences:

  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with high performance computing environments
  • Experience using Juypter Notebook/Lab
  • Experience using software revision control systems (e.g. git)
