Health Data Science and Systems Research Graduate Student Researcher

The Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC)  and the UC Davis DataLab are seeking to hire a Graduate Student Researcher with research interests in data science, health informatics, and computational system engineering to serve as the lead GSR for our secure research computing   effort. This individual will focus on the lifecycle of skills, access, and system deployment that support the capabilities to apply data science methods to  human Protected Health Information (PHI) data, and advance collaborative data-intensive health research. The GSR will participate in research development involving complex health data integration and analysis, and support the logistics and communications surrounding DataLab’s and the CTSC’s mission to foster collaboration between UC Davis Health system and Davis campus researchers.

Duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Maintain high-level awareness of the leading methods, systems and challenges in the field of protected computing environments
  • Participate in building community of interest with DataLab development of collaboration options.
  • Participate in the deployment and testing of new environments and tooling for evolving applications in protected health data (examples: NLP, ML, waveform analysis). As appropriate, the GSR will also work directly on active research collaborations.

Candidates should have a strong interest in and experience working with clinical human health data, in particular PHI data, and have at least basic skills in Python, and/or R, SQL, and linux/unix environments.  Candidates should also have an academic research focus (MA or PhD) in bioinformatics, computer science, or a similarly technically driven domain.  The research conducted by the selected candidate as part of this appointment should align closely with the candidates thesis/dissertation research and it is expected that it will lead to publications relevant to the candidate’s career goals.

This is a one year GSR appointment with potential for renewal.  Interested candidates should send a cover letter and Vita to datalab@ucdavis.edu.
