Abstract: This talk provide an overview of the Office of Research High Performance Computing (HPC) Core Facility, the current state of HPC on the UCD Campus, as well as providing some information on how to request and obtain computational resources for research at UCD and UCD Health.  Additionally, we will be discussing the future of the HPC especially as it pertains to large medical data sets and different levels of privacy.

Biography: Dr. Sergey Buduchin serves as the UC Davis HPC Technical Director where he leads the transformation of the campus’ HPC service.  He is a senior technology manager with a background in computer science and physics.  Prior to joining UC Davis in July 2020, he spent over 20 years solving research computing problems in RD&E.  In his early career, he spent 5 years developing software for medical research.  Sergey takes pride in meeting the research needs of a Fortune 500 company: led transformation in global HPC capabilities, created AI function, improved general performance of optics modeling research, established IT operations for several new R&D centers around the globe, and introduced various IT solutions in productivity and information security for 30,000 enterprise users.
