Pop-up Talk & Demo: Gale’s Digital Scholar Lab platform

January 16, 2020 @ 12:15 pm - January 18, 2020 @ 1:45 pm

DataLab’s Digital Humanities research cluster is hosting Wendy Kurtz from Gale for a pop-up talk this Thursday on their new resource, the Digital Scholar Lab. As a publisher of a wide range of educational and scholarly materials, Gale is a resource for primary archival research. The Gale Digital Scholar Lab is a new toolkit that allows for new ways to interact with your archive from Gale’s Primary Sources holdings. UC Davis has been granted trial access to this new tool and Wendy will be walking us through how to use the platform. More details, below. We hope you can join us! Check back on this site after the event for summary material.

Description: Gale’s new Digital Scholar Lab platform gives users the ability to search across their library’s Gale Primary Sources holdings and seamlessly select documents to be added to their custom content sets. Users can then clean the data, perform text analyses using any of the six text mining tools within the platform, and export visualizations, tabular data and up to 5,000 documents of OCR text. This talk and interactive demo will familiarize attendees with this new resource and address questions about the interface and workflow. Topics covered will include performing search queries, curating and managing content sets, using analysis tools, and reviewing results. Pedagogical use-cases will be discussed, and there will be open time for questions. This event is open to all members of the UC Davis community and is targeted for individuals engaging in research and teaching with digital materials.
