Instructors: Dr. Drew Fox

Dates: March 3, 2:10-5pm

Time: 2:10-5pm

Location: DataLab classroom (Shields Library room 360)

Description

This workshop provides an introduction to using Python for data analysis. We’ll discuss what Python is and how it’s organized, demo types of tasks this software is well suited for, and delve into common libraries useful when working with data. The workshop will run from 2:10-4pm, with 4-5pm for Q&A and continued practice.

Learner objectives:

* describe how Python can be used for working with data

* describe how Python can be used in Jupyter lab

* install common libraries (pandas, matplotlib)

* perform basic variable assignments, loops, conditionals, lists, and functions

* identify where to go to learn more

Prerequisites:

This workshop is designed for learners from all domains. No prior programming experience is necessary. Bring your laptop with the latest version of Python and Jupyter Lab installed. We recommend installing with Anaconda (https://docs.anaconda.com/anaconda/install/). Please be sure that you can connect to the University’s wireless network (Eduroam or guest).
